Love It
First off – I love the shape of this product. Its more wide than it is deep which makes cooking roasts and other things much easier. In my old crock-pot It was always weird sticking a pork loin in vertically to cook. I feel like the shape of this allows it to cook faster and more evenly.
The temperatures on the base are awesome – nothing too fancy or overwhelming, just a straight to the point turn knob operation with 5 settings. I was able to make fondue and keep its temperature steady with this, which I’m extremely pleased with because my ceramic one had only 2 settings and low wasn’t hot enough and high always tended to start burning my cheese to my dish.
The carrying case is really pretty and feels well sewn and insulated. Though I haven’t had the chance to use it yet I’m glad that this set gave me the option to even have it.
I love the dual purpose griddle/ crock-pot feature. It made making breakfast pretty easy with the extra surface area I had to make things.
Overall I think it was a good purchase and I would recommend it. It is a little bit higher price than some of the brands you can get in the store but the fact that its dual purpose, comes with a carrier and has temp settings that allow you to chose a more specific heat without being digital/complicated is what makes it worth it to me.
Replacing a 30+ year old version of the same slow cooker
My wife & I received a West Bend slow cooker for Christmas a couple years after we were married. It has served faithfully over the years. Brisket, spaghetti sauce, pork ribs, pot roast, it never failed to cook to perfection. The last couple of years it has begun to show signs of slowing down. Sometimes it would shut off if the control was set to 1. I saw this one advertised in a magazine & knew what I wanted to get my wife for Christmas. It cooks as well as our 30+ year old cooker did when it was new. The only negative comment we have regards the handles. Our old slow cooker had handles that didn’t get hot. The handles on the new one are an integral part of the pan. Make sure you have a pair of good hot pads before you pick it up.
